Welcome to the City of Mbombela

City of Mbombela is situated in the Eastern part of South Africa and is the capital of Mpumalanga Province. The city serves as a gateway to some of the best eco- and adventure activities in Southern Africa and with its moderate climate, it becomes the preferred tourist destination all year round. Our sub-tropical fruits (like mangos, avocados, oranges, lemons, litchis and bananas) is a huge drawing card for visitors and during spring-time the blossoms of orange trees can be smelt for kilometres. For shopping enthusiasts the city offers world class shopping malls, casinos and entertainment venues with air conditioning systems. This creates excellent opportunities for prospective investors and businesses to establish themselves in the area.

Green Drop is an incentive based regulation which was introduced by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), previously DWA (Department of Water Affairs) in 2008. Mbombela Local Municipality is one of the Water Service Institution that participates in the Green Drop.

The Green Drop measures and compares the results of the performance of Water Service Authority as well as their Water Services Providers and subsequently rewards and/or penalizes the Municipality upon evidence of their excellence and/or failures according to the minimum standards or requirements that has been defined by DWS.

The municipality would like to appeal to all water users, especially consumers that are supplied from the KaNyamazane water scheme (Nsikazi South) to exercise extra care and avoid wasting water during these harsh weather conditions.

The KaNyamazane Water scheme is severely affected by this shortage of water as it experiences periodical blockages of the pump screens by algae resulting in stoppages to clean the screens from time to time.

Rivers running low, use water sparingly

City of Mbombela would like to inform all the resident and water users that abstraction restrictions are being implemented as the Crocodile has stopped flowing further downstream. These restrictions will apply to all municipal abstractions from the Crocodile River such as Mbombela, White River, KaNyamazane, Malalane and Komatipoort.

Your immediate and urgent action will be appreciated.

The Arts and Culture Unit of Mbombela Local Municipality conducted an art workshop at Mbombela Art Gallery targeting people with disabilities throughout Mbombela. The workshop started on Monday 4 April until Thursday 7 April 2016. The "Disabled People of South Africa" assisted Mbombela in transporting people to the workshop. The workshop turned out a huge success and a follow-up workshop and exhibition will be done towards Sept/October 2016.

This event is one of the most prominent 'green' displays in South Africa with an average attendance of some 23000 which includes foreigners.

This participation assists us in developing our creativity which enables us to implement these ideas practically in municipal areas. There is also the interaction between ourselves and other municipalities and even private landscape architects. This interaction also comes in the form of other stand builders assistance. Seeing ideas from other participants and their interpretation of the given theme.
