Water Supply to parts of the Nsikazi Area in the Mbombela Local
Municipality has been disrupted as a result of an apparent illegal
strike by employees of the Bushbuckridge Water Board (BWB).
Negotiations between the management of BWB and the unions,
apparently over salaries are still continuing. The Mbombela Local
Municipality has received a statement from BWB indicating that the
Management is discussing the strike with their Board while the
unions are discussing with their members. Information received
earlier was that pumps are running in the Nsikazi North area but
without BWB supervision. Personel from the Mbombela Local
Municipality (MLM) will continue monitoring the situation. Meanwhile
the strikers have switched of the plant at Kanyamazane and as a
result no water is being pumped to Nsikazi South and there is only
limited water is available in the reservoirs. As of now there is no
indication from BWB as to how long the strike will last.
The Mbombela Local Municipality would therefore like to appeal to
the residents to use the limited water sparingly.

Vusi Sibiya (MLM spokesperson)
