Department’s background information

The division derive its existence from the constitution of Republic of South Africa, section 152 (1) C where it say the local government must promote social and economic development

Key Focus Areas

  • Provide support and capacity building for SMMEs and Cooperatives.
  • Co-ordinate Community Works Programmes
  • Development and implementation of the LED strategy.
  • Facilitate Stakeholder relations through the LED Forum

  • Support of SMMES with equipment and materials
  • Support the township economy
  • Facilitate the sitting of the LED forum
  • Facilitation of Social Labour Plan
  • Facilitate the sitting of Local Reference Committee
  • Management and Implementation of Community Works Programme
